Founded in 1860, Swiss watchmaker and jewelry maker, Chopard promises 100% ethical gold in the creation of jewelry and watches, a feat that has not been achieved anywhere by any brand or anyone before now.
Sourcing gold from small-scale mines participating in the Swiss Better Gold Association (SBGA) fairminded and fairtrade schemes, or from the RJC Chain of Custody, through Chopard‘s partnership with RJC-certified refineries, the luxury brand will stop using gold that is not from reliable sources starting from July.
After five years of deliberation, Chopard has reached an agreement to take the path of Eco Age – which featured ‘haute joaillerie’ pieces that were sourced, designed and crafted according to the highest ethical standards. Meanwhile, Chopard took part in the Livia Firth’s Eco Age project, which regularly produced a Green Carpet Collection.
“We are so proud at Eco Age of this incredible milestone – not only is Chopard the only luxury jewelry and watch brand to achieve a 100% ethical gold supply chain but they did it in just five years!” Livia Firth says. “Today the message is loud and clear: corporate neutrality is finished.”
